New York business executive Jonah Engler Silberman excels at motivating others and leading business initiatives. Dedicated to supporting the people of New York, Jonah Engler Silberman contributes to local charitable and community organizations, including the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).

Working in the city’s five boroughs, the UFT maintains several initiatives on improving the New York public school system. The Community Learning Schools (CLS) initiative, started in 2012, was designed to help students overcome emotional, academic, and social barriers caused by poverty. Recent statistics from the CLS initiative show positive academic growth, proving the initiative’s effectiveness.

Some of the UFT/CLS schools have participated in important community efforts. Curtis High School’s vision screenings resulted in students receiving free eyeglasses from CLS. PS 156 in Brooklyn taught parents living in temporary homeless shelters ways to help their children succeed. During the 2016-17 school year, the UFT will have 28 schools participating in its CLS initiative, reaching more than 16,000 students.
